Restore Habeas Corpus

Last fall, Congress passed the Military Commissions Act, banned all non-citizens in U.S. custody that the President designated an "enemy combatant" to go to court and the exercise of fundamental human rights. Then President Bush, the Military Commissions Act of 2006 was signed, was unable to protect and defend the Constitution by suspending habeas corpus, a legal principle of Magna Carta, and a cornerstone of our Constitution. The right to go to court and askthe government to show that they also have a basis for their detention. This prohibition of filing a habeas corpus has meant that people who have been in U.S. custody for more than five years, which will take place without any meaningful judicial scrutiny continues.

The "constitution" is clearly the right to a trial. In fact, there is only one reference to habeas corpus at all quote: "The privilege of habeas corpus is not suspended, unless when in cases of rebellion or invasionpublic safety may require. "

Senator Patrick Leahy (D), Vermont said: "The bill that there would be writ large, not only the suspension – great writing – the Habeas Corpus, simply removed permanently."

Olbermann said: "OK, maybe the debate was not significant. However, the countdown has learned that" habeas corpus "that precedes the Constitution, it does not just before Sept. 11, thinks it's the thought that July 4.

Those days that nonecould have imagined that enemy combatants might one day attack Americans on native soil. In fact a copy partly blackened the countdown to a "declaration received colonial," indicating that back then, there's no proof was considered by the jury actually be good reasons to start a war of independence based on the then fashionable idea that "freedom" is an inalienable right.

But today, thanks to modern post-9/11 thinking, those rights are now fully alienable – for yourSecurity. "

Americans concerned should tell Congress to restore the centuries old writ of habeas corpus. Your vote elected officials is crucial to the success of this initiative. Your voice is needed to support the process of law, and know how to let the Congress do not believe America, People Hold On "executive decision to indefinitely. Our forefathers founded the United States with this resistance against tyranny and oppression. This is now the PresidentOppressors? If due process is being sacrificed to fight the so-called tyrants and terrorists, we are less secure here at home.

Why do Americans have to sacrifice our fundamental right to a fair trial, because this president thinks we should? This same freedom of due process of habeas corpus-Basic is what gives us the rest of the civilized world, and separate real tyrants, like Hitler, Stalin, Castro, Noriega, and now Chavez. These freedoms are very basic elementaryThis country is coming. This basic freedoms should not be a victim of American war on terrorism are. Instead, it is one of the basic principles that separate us from the terrorists and must be restored immediately secure our image as a beacon of hope.

The "Countdown" Keith Olbermann, the Military Commission Act of 2006 and examined what makes habeas corpus. After Olbermann "The president has now succeeded where no one before. And 'managed to kill Habeas Corpus. "This measure is nothing less than killing the Bill of Rights. Because the Mark Foley story began to break on the night of September 28, exploded the following day, many people may not have noticed the bill approved by Senate That night.

The approval of the bill to the White House gives Bush the power to effectively fight the enemies of the United States – those who cause damage to the country. After Olbermann "has very clearwho thinks he is. "

The MCA strips to challenge all detainees as "foreign" unlawful enemy combatants the right to Habeas Corpus Act, the lawfulness of their detention before an independent tribunal or to seek exemption from the abuses described, including torture. Detainees have the right CSRT or military commission decisions may be appealed to civilian courts, but the prisoners were not brought before them the opportunity to hear a court for their requests. This provisionalso applies to prisoners who have not tried after being released – prisoners are not brought to court have no way to seek redress or compensation for their detention, even if ultimately they are devoid of any wrongdoing.
This provision excluded from the Treatment of Prisoners Act 2005, prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, habeas corpus challenges to come, their detention or the conditions of their detention.

Americans concerned should do the right thingunity and support the right of habeas corpus in the bill HR 1415 to restore, restoration of the Constitution of 2007 (http://capwiz.com/pdamerica/issues/bills/?billnum=HR1415&congress=110&size=full) , which provides for the prosecution of terrorists and guarantee due process.

Contact your congress person with the message that "due process" is a fundamental right and that the abolition of habeas corpus is fundamentally wrong. Ask him / her to support the restoration ofConstitution Act of 2007, HR 1415, sponsored by NY Jerry Nadler (D-), Jane Harman (D-CA), Janice Schakowsky (D-IL), Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX), Keith Ellison (D-MN ) Barney Frank (D-MA) and Barbara Lee (D-CA) to provide for the prosecution of terrorists and guarantee due process rights.

Television is certainly on the way, invented in recent times. The really expert about the nature of the cut channels to do something more with special features on satellite TV. The brave new world of Television 2.0 includes integration with the Internet and the channel will rise up and know about the hundreds of other new options that appear every year, how to play to their credit, so that old canals have not understood veryout.

After all, intellectual and hipster families increasingly reluctant to add the decision of a TV, so the statement that you can watch TV, smart and intelligent. Thanksgiving 2009

E 'was observed for eight years, since we have Thanksgiving in the dark shadow of 9 / 11, for eight years since I started writing this essay freedom of expression of my deepest gratitude to those who bequeathed blessings of liberty, the giants on whose shoulders we all stand.

My fourth grade teacher, Welch has taught us how the pilgrims came to America to escape religious persecution, and a moment of thanks was to celebrate our religious freedom. He made sure we got theMayflower Compact, with its commitment to civil body politic. He taught us the victims of this first winter, when more than half the colony died.

These were the major issues that I was taught by America, the big themes that Mr. Welch has taught us that in western Pennsylvania school many years ago.

Freedom. The freedom to worship as we believe what we want, no matter how unpopular or dangerous it could be. As Emerson wrote: "Nothing is sacred, but in the endthe integrity of your mind. "

Cooperation. The commitment we make to cooperate freely with each other for the good of a civil body politic. The recognition of what we saw in our history, and work with 1 + 1 makes 3 miracles.

Shared Sacrifice. The recognition of our history, as the brutal winter in 1620 as Valley Forge, as the beaches of Normandy and as the dark day in September to eight years, we are in thistogether. that our destinies are linked, which, as Benjamin Franklin put: "We must hang together, gentlemen … else, we hang separately are the safest"

On that Thanksgiving Day eight years ago, which was combined 11.09 after Thanksgiving, America as a nation. Our freedom, decided by a terrorist enemy that our destruction was attacked. The victims of the 09/11 split was in the country, because everyone knew someone who knew someone died that terrible day. And in the spirit ofCo-existed in America, as we saw after the Second World War. Not only in America but in many parts of the world.

How different is today. There is little cooperation in the halls of government, far less than we need to address the challenges. With the gushing fountain of new money on Wall Street, while still outside the cones on Main Street turned, people are angry. Where is the shared sacrifice, a sense that we are all in this together? InLack of cooperation and in the presence of anger, our freedoms disappear unstoppable. 1 + 1 ½ to fast.

I do not think that is what we, we the people want. It 'also in accordance with our responsibilities. As I remember Welch in class learning, it is our responsibility that the people … our sacred duty … the blessings of liberty to us to secure ourselves and our descendants of those before us those blessings secured to us.

One of the firstThings will be a good hockey coach, when things are right back to the roots get to concentrate his players' back to basics of the game. The little things right and great things will follow.

We the people need to do the same. We must focus on fundamental freedoms, cooperation and shared sacrifice. Get this right and unleash the creativity, innovative and productive in the world has ever seen. Wrong and is 1 + 1 fast ½.

This week brought news that illustrates in a small way what it means to do well. liberal organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union, cooperation with organizations like the conservative Heritage Foundation to the government on what they see as the cause over-criminalization. Opposite ends of the political spectrum to unite to protect our freedom.

A comparison with the country's dominant personality. Perhaps the only thing that Rush Limbaugh and> Keith Olbermann would agree is how the individual rating is good for others. Limbaugh, Olbermann, Palin, Pelosi, Reid, McConnell, everyone wants us to define our labels: left, right, conservative, liberal, hawk, dove, gay, straight, etc etc etc. The success lies in the definition of us differentiate the each other. Divide and conquer. The problem is that at its best, is win-lose in the worst cases, loss of revenue. Except of course for the big-moneyis taking too happy to exploit the situation for their own selfish ends, are big winners, while people who are the big losers.

The American Civil Liberties Union and the Heritage Foundation are back to basics. Forget the labels, they are saying. Concentrate on essential points. And 'their common conviction that is over-criminalization of tyranny by the state, and together, to take these freedoms back. The American Civil Liberties Union wins. HeritageFoundation wins. And so we know that to win the people we are. Win-Win-Win.

Be the change you see in the world. Mahatma Gandhi

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on our faith, handed down this legacy of religious freedom is part of that first Thanksgiving. America's many faiths. And while everyone speaks differently man's relationship with the universe, they speak with one voice about our moral relationship, love your neighbor as yourself, what is hateful to you,not do to another, none of you is a believer till he loves for his brother what he loves for himself. Why? Why is the golden rule paves the way for win-win-win.

America in our Best speaks with just this voice, the voice of a win-win-win. During the period of major joint victims of World War II, was the Judge Learned Hand had the privilege of many thousands of Americans, including a large number of new citizens in a ceremony at American Day I Am the Central Park her wordson this day reflect the Golden Rule, the voice of win-win-win

The spirit of liberty is the spirit that is not too sure who is right, the spirit of liberty is the spirit, the spirit of other men and women trying to understand the spirit of liberty is the spirit, their interests, together with its weight, without prejudice, the spirit of liberty remembers that not even a sparrow falls to earth unheeded; the spirit of liberty is the spirit of those who taught near two thousand years agoHumanity has never learned that lesson, but never completely forgotten that this is a kingdom where the least shall be heard and considered side by side with older children.

I am very thankful for this Thanksgiving, the spirit of freedom for them is the source of all good in America. This spiritual foundation of America's freedom, honor, generate cooperation, sacrifice and does not reflect America's only 400 years together, but the shared sacrifice of freedom seekersPeople around, maybe two million years of human history.

Return to base. And 'the spirit of freedom that America can release new energies and the American imagination, innovation and productivity. And 'the spirit of freedom, which in turn can win lose-lose-lose and win-win-win. This is to make the spirit of freedom that can be 1 + 1 new third and 'the spirit of freedom that can bring us to that shining city on the hill.

Is this a happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved onesones. It may indicate a renewed commitment to reveal all of us in the spirit of freedom in everything we do.

Let freedom ring.

MeddyBemps cottage has been in our family for almost fifty years

Image : http://www.flickr.com

My mom and dad bought our camp on the beautiful Lake Meddybemps Maine in 1946. They bought the stock (within the country in Down East Maine called) from "Donkey" Smith of Calais. It 'was just our camp, and Tommy Reynolds near Denyer's Cottage Beach. Dad painted our place, "Red", so then we were known as "red field" near the beach. Cliff Reynolds in possession of the beach, but our beach with the family was right. Mr. Reynolds also owned the fields on our right, and he had rented during allin summer. Cliff had to rent an entire company to his camp with the beach and boats. He started a place for people, tent and camping completely in its area facing the beach, with a hand pump to draw water and a snack bar and a place to boot. I used to dive in front of our pier is growing before our red camp, and I would swim diagonally to the beach raft. It was usually the floating crowded, especially on a hot summer day. It 'was fun, a childthose days. Father worked in a document (St.Croix Paper Co) at "Woodland" in Baileyville, Maine. If schools Woodland rent for the summer holidays, we and our children would Sprague mother jumped out and stay until Labor Day move.

I could swim all day fishing and boating. I guess I never realized how happy I was then. I could jump on the boat and drive into the city pier. I bind to the port and go to the store's Palm. They sold gas there, and I could get candyand ice or some foods. Palme's family were always friendly. Curtis was "Chub" Palme and his wife, Alberta, daughters Betty, Maxine and Myrtle and a son Curtis. Charlie Bridges also worked there and was a good boy. The shop was a meeting place for Meddybempsters and summer campers. There were leaders and supervisors as Cecil Ward and Ronald Cousins. I enjoyed seeing Howard Allen and a few times to see him at his home in the area. I hung out with Mark KetchumJeff Orchard, Dale Sherrard, Johnny Hanson, Roger Holst, Jon Mahar and a few others. Sometimes my mother would run errands.

I would look at the post office, shop a short walk from there across the bridge of the dam by Harry Smith and Lottie Lombards, the Po, which was home to go to Everett Gillespie. Once in a while, I get a taste of her beautiful daughters, Nancy and Frannie. Thereafter, the PO moved farther down Route 191 and Lottie's Store was closed. I canI still remember all the baskets hanging in there and the distinct smell of sweet grass baskets of those Indians. Palm's saved as a friendly game of bygone days on the lake. After my thesis I want to go right over the pier head small white church, a gurgling brook and back to my boat. Dad always had growing up with a boatload of power and when I was a bit 'bigger, I built my own seaplane, which I enjoyed sliding on the water. Kip had a place hydro Keneap too, but he was veryfaster than mine. Another was owned by Ronnie Denyer.

Since we had only one car in those days his father would bring bags with food, which bought by eBay in Woodland Coulter after work. On weekends, we Calais to buy or eat out of A & P or IgA. My favorite shop was the Western Auto hardware and Todd, but was a 5 and 10, WT Grant, Woolworth, Fishman, Bernardini Peanuts (peanuts were very warm and cashews, which were anointed inbrown bag), Down East TV and a few other places we like to go. The peanuts were so good, but limited, all the way back to camp. We ate. Sometimes Mom Dad took me and my sisters, the St. Croix Valley Drive-In Theatre. I always remember a circular green burning wick on a car dashboard. There were so many mosquitoes and black flies.

In those days was the speakers on a pole. The showcased. This was before you could tune to a specific frequencythe radio. A couple of times we went to the movies in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, at the Queen Theatre. The Canadian border is about 16 miles from our camp. burned by the State Theater Calais was without a cinema. The last film was played there, "A Hot Tin Roof." How ironic. It 'been a good life, when life was simple. We had the majority of companies throughout the summer as Cliff's Land has many friends to play with. Many of his fields had the same tenant from year to year. Most stayed two weeks at a time. In late summer I had my "remote Ham and my sisters, boyfriends. We were playing cards on rainy days, the hot water in the days skiing and swimming every day. The thunder and lightning on the lake were unforgettable. Lightning would strike the sea with a load of noise, white headphones streaming toward the lake. It 'was a show. Once, I remember lightning came through the window and bounced off the black stove. Some of the campers were frightened, butwas exciting, the same for me.

Meddybemps Lake drew many people from Maine and other eastern states. The lake is big enough, eight miles long and 7 km wide with fifty-two Islands. Some of you Nick-name for this lake reason. There calendar was the country most of these islands and most had large boats. I've always been a bit 'jealous of the islanders. A boat I remember as a child was given the name "Dixie Clipper" owned by the Graham family. I had heard that something hadto do with the Cup Dixie Company. This was never verified my knowledge. Could also have been a voice, but this family were very good, the same thing and had a huge house and a mile of beachfront. Some of the boats on the lake, are designed to use the most ocean, I thought.

Meddybemps was in deep parts, but was also known for its many rocks. There were quite a few boats and engines were damaged in that body of water. I learned quickly where most of the rocks were. Many of these bolders just below the surface were marked with paint or buoys, but sometimes a bit ', we noticed that some were overlooked. I managed a couple of pins or two over the years, cutting and had to fix the outboard motor several times. I also remember the seaplanes land on the lake, and sometimes we got a ride on the lake would take. Ketchum and had a plan and so did Ed Arbo. Of course, then the fish and game warden, so we make sure we had ourLicense with us, and measure the length of our catch. Dad likes to go fishing after work and we usually fried fish two or three nights a week. We fry, oven and grill them.

I had the honor of cleaning and filleting perch, pike and bass occasionally. The latter method is usually a fish soup over. The mother was a builder of good fish soup and Dad was known for his homemade soup of clams. The mother was also an expert builder cake. We also ate at the lake. The berries were also numerous. Uswere wild strawberries and raspberries and blueberries in July retreat in August were good on cereal or in a large bowl with whipped cream. In late summer, was part of Maine blueberries to rake these areas and then sorted and sent to factories or Stewart Wyman. There was much work for us children for at least two weeks. We could not earn enough to buy our own school clothes or whatever we wanted. I normally Howard Allen Sadler forest or workas Conant's Hill. I could rake a lot of berries, but my back was always aching by the end of the day. If you really wanted to clean berries were handpicked elsewhere. Cake with strawberries and blueberries are my favorites.

In Lake Meddybemps, we had the best sunsets. We enjoyed many of them was dark in our front screen porch. The night sky and you could see every star in the sky. Eventually, I had a telescope on the veranda, but I must admit, have focused onBeach on a few occasions. We rode bikes on the road of the camp and had a few baseball games in a box of Reynolds. Tommy Denyer receive every summer to collect rabbit rabbit out of the man in Charlotte. Craig Nelson was leaving Tommy held in cages in his field of square back and then resume in late summer. We children enjoyed the rabbit. They were all different colors. mixed gray, black and white.

Another interesting thing is that each wave Meddybemps Lake with one anotherin water, even if we knew more of them. It 'was just a friendly gesture, we all have. The lake was nice and the elms were quite inviting and around the village. Finally, the Dutch elm disease and large trees. Soon the bright streetlights were installed along the coast and on the highway. After Cliff's death, his son, his new house built on the beach.

Unfortunately, life is quiet. However, I still have my wife who broughtBeach under the stars on a summer evening. Later we bought a red of my people. One of the first projects was the color of the field in a different color. It was now the blue field. Everyone complains now missed the red field. I just fill with hot water and a shower, which was approved never-the-less. We must make good use of this place growing in a nearby town. We would like to see the autumn foliage. Dad would drive in November, his brothers and other hunters would stay right therefew weeks a year. In winter, we went there to skate and play in the snow. Then we eat until we are warm from the oven and lunch and drink hot chocolate. Spring ice-out would end in April. Sometimes we were there when the ice disappeared and hopefully have the dock on the coast. Many years we had to repair or build new quays.

In the mid-eighties began, my wife and I moved to Calais from Massachusetts, a business, and hoped to enjoy the field as inthe old days, and my son to experience that I had. With a self-employed, ie not always have enough free time. This is the case for me, but my wife and my son has Meddybemps to enjoy for a few years. Nothing stays the same course, so I cling to happy memories of the past.
